Alex Buchan

Age: 14

Sex: male

Date: 6 Apr 2019

Place: Fleet Street, Holbeach, Lincolnshire

Alex Buchan died from a drug overdose.

He was found at a property in Fleet Street, Holbeach, Lincolnshire, in the early hours, around 1.30am on Saturday 6 April 2019 and died at 2.30am. An ecstasy tablet with the motif, 'The Punisher', was found next to him.

He was later found to have collapsed after ingesting fatal levels of MDMA into his bloodstream.

Two men, aged 19 and 21, who had been organising weekly drugs parties, were convicted of supplying drugs. The 19-year-old had been supplying the drugs whilst the 21-year-old had been hosting the events.

They had been holding weekly parties at the home, with invitations given out to school-age children.

It was determined that Alex Buchan had obtained the drug via the 19-year-old and then ingested some or all of it.

When the judge sentenced them following a trial in November 2020, he said that although there wasn't enough evidence to bring criminal charges against them for causing Alex Buchan's death, that they were both morally responsible for what happened. The 19-year-old was sentenced to three years and eight months whilst the 21-year-old was sentenced to three years.

The judge said, 'Neither defendant has been charged in relation to Alex's death and the sentence the court imposes cannot reflect the death. However you will have the moral responsibility for Alex Buchan's death on your conscience for the rest of your lives'.
